How cooking gas price increases by 83.62 percent in Nigeria ─NBS

In view of the recent soaring price of the consumer product in the country, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has disclosed in its latest report, that the average retail price of cooking gas increased by 83.62 percent from N2,057.71 March 2021.

ConsumerConnect reports the March 2022 report of the regulatory agency released Friday, April 22, 2022, revealed the average price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, also known as Cooking Gas, stood at N3,778.30 March 2022 from N3,708.58 recorded February this year, indicating an increase of 1.88 percent month-on-month.

According to state profile analysis, the highest average price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas was recorded in Ekiti State with N4,200.00, followed by Niger State with N4,163.33 and Imo State with N4,150.00.

However, Adamawa State recorded the lowest average price with N2,604.01 followed by Yobe and Kano states recording N2,740.00 and N300.00 respectively, said the NBS.

Besides, prices analysed by zones show that the average retail price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of Cooking Gas was highest in the South-East with N992.56 followed by South-West with N3,900.55 and South-South with N3,877.08, while North-East recorded the lowest average retail price was the with N3,419.37.

Likewise, the agency noted that the average retail price of a 12.5kg Cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas by zones showed that the average retail price was highest in the South-West region of Nigeria, with N7,892.40 followed by the North-Central and North-West with N7,657.22 and N7,533.91 respectively.

The South-South Zone recorded the lowest price with N7,091.61.
