Public Health: Why Calabar residents battle stench with over-filled refuse bins ─Waste Agency

A serious public health problem looms in the metropolis as the Cross River Waste Management Agency (CRWMA) has appealed to Calabar residents to be patient with the agency over the delay in waste evacuation.

ConsumerConnect reports despite the CRWMA’s appeal to keep public health, residents are curently battling with disturbing stench oozing from over-filled refuse bins in and around their areas.

Mr. Sunday Oko, CRWMA General Manager, who related this development in a statement issued Monday, April 11, 2022, in Calabar, Ctoss River State capital, also explained that the health regulatory agency had begun the evacuation of the waste in the metropolis, especially around the Watt Market, Mbukpa market, Etim Edem park, and other areas.

Oko stated: “The agency regrets the recent delay in waste evacuation. We assure you of our commitment and promise that in no time, all waste will be cleared.

“The agency is also making concerted efforts to overcome the recent refuse evacuation challenge.”

The General Manager of CRWMA as well said: “We solicit your patience and usual support aimed at ensuring a safe and habitable Cross River.”
