As the Nigerian Government intensifies efforts at evacuating stranded Nigerians in Ukraine as the Russian invasion escalates, a fresh set of citizens fleeing the crisis zones in the European country have been successfully evacuated to Abuja, FCT.

ConsumerConnect reports that 306 more Nigerians arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) morning on Sunday, March 6, 2022, from Budapest, the capital and largest city in Hungary.

The citizens were airlifted back home via an Air Peace flight from Budapest, in Hungary where they had crossed over to safety from the war-torn Ukraine.

Report also indicates the Sunday’s flight from Hungary made the 4th batch of returnees in the continuing evacuation earlier approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Welcoming the Nigerian returnees, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other agencies also disclosed that they are currently being attended to in Abuja.

Mustapha Habib Ahmed, Director-General of NEMA, on behalf of the Federal Government, welcomed the Nigerians and informed them that President Buhari had approved the evacuation back home to safety.

Ahmed, represented by Air Commodore Edward Adedokun, Director of Search and Rescue at NEMA, said the Federal Government also provided a sum of USD$100 to be given to each of them in aid of their transportation to their various locations across the West African country.

The NEMA Director-General further informed the returnees that arrangement had also been concluded for a night’s accommodation for them to rest before leaving for their respective homes in Nigeria.

However, those whose relatives had come to pick them up were free to go, said the regulatory agency.
