BMW of North America is recalling four model year 2022 330i, 530i, X3 xDrive30i, and X4 xDrive30i vehicles.

The automobile manufacturer said that the mechatronics unit inside the transmission may not have been assembled properly, which could result in an internal leak.

BMW noted that an internal transmission leak could lead a vehicle rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

In connection with what to do in correcting the error, the company said that dealers would  replace the transmission mechatronics unit free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 4, 2022.

Affected vehicle owners may contact BMW customer service on (800) 525-7417.
