Against the backdrop of the rapid rate at which the Omicron variant of COVID-19 reportedly spreads across the country, Pfizer Incorporated has disclosed it is in the final stages of testing a vaccine specifically designed to prevent infection by the variant.

Albert Bourla, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pfizer, said in an interview with CNBC that the vaccine would be ready in two months.

Bourla stated: “This vaccine will be ready in March.

“We (are) already starting manufacturing some of these quantities at risk.”

The Pfizer CEO noted that the vaccine, which will be evaluated by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before it can be administered on consumers, will be effective against the other variants that are circulating.

Scientists will need to determine whether the vaccine is needed, said Bourla.
