Fire Service, others put out minor fire at Port Harcourt Refining Company ─NNPC

*The NNPC Limited reports the Management of Port Harcourt Refining Company has mobilised the company’s safety structure and Federal Fire Service to successfully bring the fire under control

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has reported that a minor fire incident occurred in the morning Saturday, January 1, 2022, at the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC), in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.

The NNPC stated that the incident, which was contained in less than two hours, was caused by a spark while a 33,000 litre truck was discharging naphtha into a tank at the PHRC.

Mr. Garba Deen Muhammad, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of  NNPC, in a statement issued late Saturday, January 1, in Abuja, FCT, disclosed that the Management of the refinery, led by Mr. Ahmed Dikko, the Managing Director, who was at the scene supervising the operation, immediately mobilised the safety structure at the PHRC, and with support from the Federal Fire Service (FSS), successfully brought the fire under control.

Muhammad noted “the Management of the PHRC wishes to reassure Nigerians resident in the neighbourhood of the facility that they have no cause to worry about the incident; and to also affirm that the safety of life and of property is at the top of its priority list.

“The incident affected only the discharging truck and the pump bay. No other property was damaged.”

The statement further said: “The Management and Staff of the PHRC hereby extend their  profound appreciations to all those that contributed to bringing a speedy end to the incident, while wishing all Nigerians a very happy and fulfilling New Year 2022.”

ConsumerConnect reports the Port Harcourt Refining Company is a Nigerian-based oil and gas company primarily specialising in the refining of crude oil into petroleum products.

The company is headquartered in Port Harcourt metropolitan area of Rivers State, South-South Nigeria.
