In line with its earlier announcement on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine mandate by December 1, 2021, the Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the enforcement of mandatory vaccinations against the virus at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja, FCT.

ConsumerConnect reports the security personnel manning the main entrance to the Federal Secretariat in the FCT, as early as 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 1 began to request either a vaccination card or evidence of negative PCR test before allowing the Civil Servants to enter the Secretariat.

However, some of the unvaccinated civil servants queried the rationale behind the Federal Government’s decision, as they contended that the COVID-19 vaccinations should not be made compulsory but remain a matter of choice by Nigerians.

Others said they are willing to get vaccinated just the as three cases of the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus have been detected in the West African country, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

In order to facilitate the vaccinations against the raging virus at the government secretariat, an arrangement already had been made for a vaccination stand under a canopy close to the secretariat for those interested to get vaccine right away.

Recall that the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19 earlier in the past week had given a directive mandating all Federal Civil Servants to be vaccinated or present evidence of negative PCR test for COVID-19, effective from December 1, 2021.
