Banditry: Zamfara lifts embargo, reactivates telecoms services November 29

Following what the government has described as an encouraging report of peace attained in the nooks and crannies of the North-West state, the Zamfara State Government has disclosed that it lifted suspension on telecoms services in the state, effective from Monday, November 29, 2021.

ConsumerConnect gathered Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State stated this development Saturday, November 27 at the Trade Fair Complex, in Gusau, the state capital.

Governor Matawalle noted that the state government decided to lift the embargo on telecoms services in about 48 hours after the Kaduna State Government lifted suspension on telecoms services imposed on some parts of the state.

According to Zamfara State Government, the decision to suspend the measure was informed by an encouraging report of peace attained in the nooks and crannies of the state.

“I want to announce today that we have taken a decision to lift the ban on telecommunications in the state. God’s Willing, as from next Monday (November 29), we shall have that effected.

The decision, he said, was due to encouraging reports of successes achieved in the state from that stringent measure.

Matawalle commended the people of the state for their patience and perseverance throughout the trying period, as he assured the residents, that his administration would continue to take any measure necessary to preserve peace and protect lives and property.

It is noted that Zamfara State has been a hot spot for banditry, hooliganism and kidnappings in recent times.

Accordingly, the state governor at a time had suspended the transportation of livestock beyond the country’s North-West state’s borders.

Matawalle also ordered the closure of weekly markets across the state, while transportation of food items will be subject to verification.

Recall that amid serious state of insecurity in the state, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had instructed all telecommunications companies (Telcos) to shut down their services to consumers.
