NCC holds 2021 National Essay Competition Prize Ceremony November 23

Focusing on Fifth Generation (5G) technology to enhance research initiatives, encourage academic competition, excellence, and build capacity of undergraduates in tertiary institutions, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced that a prize awards ceremony for the winners of its 3rd NCC National Essay Competition holds Tuesday, November 23, 2021, in Abuja, FCT.

ConsumerConnect reports the country’s telecoms regulatory Commission said the event would take place in the Conference Hall, NCC Head Office, Maitama, Abuja, at 10.00.a.m.

Recall the regulator had stated earlier 2021, that it introduced the National Essay Competition series in order to increase awareness on 5G Technology, enhance research initiatives, encourage academic competition and excellence, and build capacity of undergraduates in tertiary institutions of learning across Nigeria.

The Commission June 2021 had announced and invited entries for the National Essay Competition for undergraduates on the topic: “5G Technology: Opportunities and Challenges”.

The deadline for submission of all entries for the 2021 NCC National Essay Competition for undergraduates was Friday, July 30.

Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, Director of Public Affairs at NCC, in a notice for the submission of entries for the 2021 National Essay Competition June 17 stated that this year’s edition, which is the third in the series, would focus on Fifth Generation (5G) technology.

The NCC also stated that the objectives of the initiative are to increase awareness on 5G networks, engage and enhance research, encourage academic competition and excellence as well as build capacity of undergraduates in the Nigerian tertiary institutions.

According to the Commission, winners of the essay competition would be invited by the Committee members to defend their entries, which should contain a maximum of 1,000 words and a minimum of 500 words on the topic.

In regard to prizes for the winners of the 2021 NCC National Essay Competition, the Commission disclosed that the 1st Prize winner would go home with a laptop, a printer and cash prize of N500,000; 2nd prize winner gets a cash prize of N300,000; and the 3rd prize winner is to receive a cash award of N200,000 respectively.
