Lagos tasks internal auditors on competence, professional ethics, integrity

In regard to the need to reinvent their role in governance structure of the state, the Lagos State Government (LASG) has advised internal auditors to ensure they discharge their duties properly and upgrade their skills.

ConsumerConnect gathered Mr. Abayomi Oluyomi, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Internal Audit, stated this in a recent statement.

The statement Oluyomi as saying this at the 14th Annual Internal Auditors’ Workshop, with the theme, ‘Redefining Independence, Professionalism And Integrity As An Imperative Of Lagos State Governance Structure’, held at Alausa, in Ikeja, Lagos.

Oluyomi said:  “Auditors are the cornerstone of the public sector; we are an integral part of the governance; hence the need to up our skills and ensure we discharge our duties properly.

“Internal auditors need to be skillful and possess appropriate work ethics in addition to acquiring digital competence, emotional intelligence, and communication skills among others.”

In her remarks at the workshop, Mrs. Olusola Oduguwa, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Internal Audit, also urged internal auditors to be fair in the discharge of their duties.

The Permanent Secretary said: “In line with the theme of the workshop, as internal auditors, you are expected to be independent in the discharge of your duties in your respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies, which implies that you need to perform your duties without fear or favour.”
