Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing is recalling 8,411 model year 2022 Prius and Prius Prime vehicles.

The automobile manufacturer said the Engine Control Unit (ECU) software may falsely detect an error and shut down the hybrid system, thereby causing a loss of drive power and increasing the risk of a crash.

In connection with what to do in addressing the defect, Toyota stated that dealers would update the ECU software free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 20, 2021.

Affected vehicle owners may contact Toyota Customer Service on (800) 331-4331, and the company’s number for this recall is 21TB07/21TA07.
