Lagos plans Blue Line Rail for test-run December 2020

The Lagos State Government of Nigeria says the first phase of its 27-kilometre Blue Line Rail system will be test-run by December 2020.

The first phase of the project covers Mile 2 to Orile-Iganmu, in Lagos.

Vanguard reports that the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, who led nine other members of the Lagos State Executive Council, December 15, 2019, disclosed this at a press conference to commemorate the 200 days of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

Source says the initial cost of the Blue Line, which started in 2009 during the Babatunde Fashola Aministration, was $1.2 billion.

The project was initiated as part of measures to address the perennial road congestion in the state.

Omotoso said some international companies had expressed interest in partnering with the state government in the project, but he reportedly did not mention the true identities of the companies.
