Nutrition Safety: Security operatives arrest 2 suspects with contaminated beef in Kwara

*The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps reveals the investigation conducted at the Kwara State Ministry of Environment and Public Health confirmed that the cow meat was unhealthy for human consumption

In a swift move to protect the wellbeing of the citizenry, operatives of the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have arrested Bashiru Bala-Zuru, a meat seller, and Nawali Bala while attempting to sell contaminated and unhealthy cow meat to consumers.

Mr. Babawale Afolabi, Spokesman of the Command, who disclosed this development in a statement issued Sunday, September 19, 2021, in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, said that the two suspects were arrested in Patigi, Edu Local Government Area of the state.

The Corps stated: “Around 8 p.m., on September 18, NSCDC officers at Patigi Divisional Headquarters, acted on information received and arrested Nawali Bala, a native of Okoloke, in Kogi State, with some contaminated cow meat.

“The unhealthy meat was packed inside an empty sack,” he said.

According to Afolabi, during interrogation, Bala confessed that the meat was given to him by one Dantani Jayewu of Okoloke, Kogi, now at large.”

The NSCDC noted that investigation conducted at State Ministry of Environment and Public Health confirmed that the meat was unhealthy for human consumption.

The suspects would be charged to court after the completion of investigations, the Command stated.
