General Motors (GM) is recalling 402 model year 2016-2021 Chevrolet Malibus and model year 2019-2021 Cadillac XT4 vehicles.

The automobile manufacturer said the rear seat belt retractors may be improperly secured with loose or missing fasteners.

The company noted that an improperly secured seat belt retractor may not function properly in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

In connection with what to do in correcting the error, General Motors stated that the dealers would inspect and tighten the rear seat belt retractors, as necessary, free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 4, 2021.

Meanwhile, affected vehicle owners may contact Chevrolet Customer Service on (800) 222-1020 and Cadillac Customer Service on (800) 458-8006.

GM’s number for this recall is N212333380.
