Hyundai recalls 348,158 Sonata, Sonata Hybrid, Accent, Azera vehicles over defective trunk latch

Hyundai Motor America is recalling 348,158 model year 2017-2018 Sonatas, model year 2016-2018 Sonata Hybrids, model year 2018-2020 Accents and model year 2016-2017 Azeras.

The automaker said that the trunk latch may become damaged, preventing the opening of the trunk from the inside.

The company stated that a person inside the trunk compartment may become trapped, increasing the risk of injury.

In regard to what to do in correcting the error, Hyundai said the dealers would replace the trunk latch assembly free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 1, 2021.
