US Government applauds Nigerian Oby Ezekwesili as Senior Fellow at Yale University

*The United States Government has congratulated Oby Ezekwesili, who has joined Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs as a Senior Fellow and one of the global figures

The United States (US) Government has congratulated Obiageli Katryn Ezekwesili (Oby), a Nigerian, who has joined the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs as a Senior Fellow and one of the global figures so recognised in the country.

ConsumerConnect reports Ezekwesili, a former Honourable Minister for Education in Nigeria, is an economic policy expert, advocate for transparency, accountability, good governance and Human Capital Development, humanitarian and activist.

She will tutor and mentor postgraduate students during the 2021 fall semester in the US.

Ezekwesili, who is a former World Bank Vice-President, is Senior Economic Adviser to the Africa Economic Development Policy Initiative, and Co-founder and pioneer Director of Transparency International (TI).

She will be teaching courses on Democracy and Africa’s Political Distortions, and Resolving Africa’s Economic Philosophy Dilemma in the world-class University.

While applauding her on this new role, the US Government reportedly said: “A great example of burgeoning Nigerian-American ties!”

Peter Salovey, President of Yale University, while announcing this development in a statement, also disclosed that Ezekwesili and five others have joined the institution.

The President of Yale University stated the five other 2021 Senior Fellows include Staffan de Mistura (Italy & Sweden), Jessica Faieta (Ecuador), Anne Patterson, David Brooks and Jessica Seddon (United States).

It was learnt the Senior Fellows are economic experts, astute commentators, publishers, bestselling authors, ambassadors, and academics.

Salovey noted these global figures, leading in various fields of international affairs, will spend a year or semester at Yale.

Previously, Ezekwesili also was head of Nigeria’s Budget Monitoring and Price Intelligence Unit, where she earned the alias “Madam Due Process” at the time.

She had served as Minister for Solid Minerals and Chairperson of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), among others local and international positions.
