Kia recalls 253,074 Forte, Forte Koup, Rio vehicles over faulty trunk latch

Kia Motors America is recalling 253,074 model year 2016-2018 Forte, Forte Koup, and model year 2018-2019 Rio vehicles.

The automobile manufacturer discloses the trunk latch of the affected vehicles may become damaged, preventing the opening of the trunk from the inside.

A person inside the trunk compartment may become trapped, increasing the risk of injury, according to Kia.

In connection with what to do in correcting the fault, the company stated that dealers would replace the trunk latch assembly free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 5, 2021.
