Insecurity: Bandits hit Nigerian Defence Academy, kill 2 officers

In what amounts to bearding the lions in their den amid the growing security concerns in the country, bandits have attacked the permanent site of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) located in Kaduna State, Northern Nigeria.

The marauding gangsters killed two officers and abducted another in the process Tuesday, August 24, 2021, according to report.

Although the military authorities have yet to confirm the incident, a security source told Channels Television that the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.

The bandits reportedly came in a vehicle that had passed through the security gate into the academy in disguised in military uniforms, after which they proceeded to the officers’ quarters for the assault.

Report noted that on arrival, the bandits began shooting sporadically and in the process, killed two officers (a Major and a Squadron Leader), and later on, took another Major away through the nearby bush inside the NDA in Kaduna.

The sound of the gunfire, however, alerted the troops of the NDA Quick Response Team, who arrived at the scene, but were unable to rescue the kidnapped officer as the bandits were already gone with the victim, report stated.

Meanwhile, a combined team of security operatives has launched a manhunt of the bandits inside the bush, including air surveillance with a view to apprehending them and rescuing the kidnapped officer.

The Nigerian Defence Academy is located few metres away from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation Afaka, in Igabi Local Government area of Kaduna State, where 39 students were abducted by bandits March this year.
