With a view to ensuring uniformity in the administration of road taxes in the country, the Joint Tax Board (JTB) has approved increases in costs of number plates and driver’s licence across Nigeria.

ConsumerConnect reports the JTB has directed the states of the Federation to implement the fresh rates, which took effect from August 1, 2021.

Mrs. Lape Kilanko, General Manager, Lagos State Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA), in a statement issued in Lagos announced the revised rates for the procurement of vehicle number plates and driver’s licence, as approved by the Board.

The MVAA General Manager noted that new rates for Standard Private Number Plates and Standard Commercial Number Plates now are N18,750 while Driver’s Licence for three years and five years go for N10,350 and N15,450 respectively.

Mrs. Kilanko stated that approval of the new rates was conveyed in a letter issued by the Joint Tax Board, dated 30th July, 2021, and addressed to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.

The letter, according to her, implored all State Boards of Internal Revenue to ensure strict adherence to the approved rates for uniformity in the administration of road taxes in the country.
