Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 774,696 model year 2013-2017 Explorer vehicles.

The automaker said that the affected vehicles may experience a seized cross-axis ball joint that may cause a fractured rear suspension toe link.

These vehicles may experience a clunk noise, unusual handling, or a misaligned rear wheel, it stated.

It also warns that fracture of a rear toe link significantly diminishes steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

In respect of what to do in rectifying the defect, it noted that dealers would inspect the cross-axis ball joint, replace the cross-axis ball joint/knuckle, as necessary, and replace the toe links with a revised design part.

Owner notifications will begin the week of August 23, 2021, agency report said.

Meanwhile, affected owners may contact Ford Customer Service on (866) 436-7332, and Ford’s number for this recall is 21S32.
