Mr. Kennedy Obedeke, Principal Staff Officer (PSO) Operations, Edo Command of NDLEA, who led the operations, told reporters before the destruction of the farms that they were discovered through intelligence.

Obedeke disclosed that the three cannabis farmlands measuring about 22.216411 hectares, had cannabis plants with market value running into several millions of naira.

The NDLEA Commander, who stated that the operation had been ongoing since Wednesday, said in spite of the challenges faced by the command, it would not relent in the war against illicit drugs in the state.

Edo is a Cannabis sativa-producing state, but the command is doing its best to ensure that the substance did not get to consumers.

According to him, with the motivation and encouragement from Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd.), Chairman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the agency, the Edo Command of the agency is more committed to the renewed war against illicit drug and substance abuse in the state.

One of the suspects, who claimed to be the Manager of the farm told reporters that he was being paid N120,000 annually by the owner of the farms.

However, he disclosed that he was aware of the implications of his crime, and the owner of the farms on the run at present.
