GM recalls 896 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles for ‘overcured’ tyres

General Motors (GM) is recalling 896 model year 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles.

The automobile company said the affected vehicles’ tyres were cured for too long during production.

Overcured tyres, it stated, may develop a break in the sidewall resulting in sudden air loss or a belt edge separation which could lead to a tread/belt loss.

GM noted that either condition could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash, agency report said.

In connection with what to do in rectifying the production error, the company said  that dealers would inspect and replace the tires, as necessary, and free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 19, 2021.

Affected vehicle owners may contact Chevrolet Customer Service on (800) 222-1020 and GMC customer service on (800) 462-8782.

GM’s number for this recall is N212336230.
