Ooni of Ife commends Osun Governor, seeks government’s intervention on township roads rehabilitation

His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife, has expressed his kingship support for the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State.

The traditional ruler disclosed this at the 2021 Zenith Colloquium titled, “Ife Wii: Selected Wits, Axioms, Idioms, Proverbs and Epigrams in Ife Dialect”, organised by Ife Zenith Club held at Ife City Hall, Enuwa, Ile-Ife, Osun State, The Nation report said.

Oba Ogunwusi, who appealed to Governor Oyetola to see to the plights of the Ile-Ife people regarding deplorable roads and ensure they are rehabilitated, said “Ile-Ife is not enemy of the government.”

Represented on the occasion by Oba Segun Layade, the Alara of Araoodaye, the Royal Majesty in his address, said, “Ile-Ife is not an enemy of the government; we are friends of Governor Oyetola. We deserve good things.

“The government inaugurated 8.1km road at Ipetu (in Osun State); our roads need attention by rehabilitating them.”

In his address at the event, Justice Yinka Afolabi, Deputy Chief of Ife Zenith Club, explained that they discovered Ife is losing touch with the forebearers in terms of language, customs, tradition and culture.

Justice Afolabi stated: “Ile-Ife was originally known for excellence and great civilisation. “The Europeans acknowledged this fact, but what we have now is a remnant of that heritage. That is why we are reviving it today.”

Prof. Adisa Ogunfolakan, Director of Natural History Museum at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, who was the Guest Speaker at the 2021 Zenith Colloquium, urged parents to seek more knowledge about the culture, language and tradition of Ile-Ife and teach their children.
