US Government secures 500m COVID-19 vaccine doses for global distribution

In the spirit of vaccine equity and following the reported 64 percent of adult Americans who have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot amid decreasing daily death rates, the United States Government now is taking its vaccination mission globally.

It was gathered the White House, in Washington, Thursday, June 10, 2021, announced that it has ordered 500 million life-saving vaccines for distribution to needy countries worldwide.

According to the distribution arrangement, 200 million vaccine doses are to be delivered by the end of 2021, while the remaining 300 million vaccines are to be sent by June 2022.

US President Joe Biden reportedly couched the effort as a ‘donation’, describing it as one that “will serve as the foundation for a coordinated effort by the world’s democracies to vaccinate people around the world.”

It was learnt that President Biden has selected Pfizer Inc. as his partner in the global vaccine production and distribution programme.

The vaccines will be delivered to 92 low- and lower middle-income countries and the African Union (AU), according to report.

The White House, in a statement, confirmed the initiative, saying, “thanks to the success of our vaccination programme, the United States is beating COVID-19 here at home.

“64% of adult Americans have received at least one shot in just four-and-a-half months, daily death rates are lower than at any point in the pandemic, and our economy is rebounding.”

The statement noted: “Now, the United States is using the power of our democracy, the ingenuity of American scientists, and the strength of American manufacturing to beat the pandemic globally by helping to vaccinate the world.”
