GM recalls 196 Chevrolet 6500HD vehicles over wrongly calibrated ECM

General Motors (GM) is recalling 196 model year 2019-2020 Chevrolet 6500HD vehicles.

The company stated the Engine Control Module (ECM) was calibrated incorrectly, allowing the vehicle to exceed the tires’ maximum speed rating of 75 mph.

Tyre failure can occur if the vehicle speed exceeds the maximum tire speed rating, increasing the risk of a crash, General Motors said.

As regards what to do in rectifying the error, the company said dealers would update the ECM software free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 28, 2021.

Meanwhile, affected owners may contact Chevrolet Customer Service on (800) 222-1020.

GM’s number for this recall is N202325530.
