James Ibori’s loot: Federal Government returns recovered £4.2m to Delta ─AGF

In spite of the initial argument and counter-argument over who really owns the stolen but recovered funds, Mr. Ahmed Idris, Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), has confirmed that the Federal Government returned £4.2million looted by former Governor James Ibori and recently recovered from the United Kingdom (UK) to Delta State.

ConsumerConnect reports AGF Idris disclosed Tuesday, May 25, 2021, when he appeared before the House of Representatives’ Ad hoc Committee on Assessment and Status of All Recovered Loots Movable and Immovable Assets from 2002 to 2020 by Agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria for Effective Efficient Management and Utilisation.

He informed the House Committee that such funds looted from the government treasury of a state are always returned to the state.

According to him, states as constituent units of the country, can sue the Federal Government to recover such funds.
