Economic Sabotage: Customs seizes 18 contraband worth N50m DPV in Katsina

As part of part of measures and strategies to minimise smuggling activities and enhance economic development of the country, Officers of the Katsina Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, (NCS) have intercepted 18 contrabands with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N50million in Katsina State, North-West Nigeria.

ConsumerConnect reports the regulatory agency’s successful operation is regarded as part of measures and strategies put in place by the NCS Command in the state to suppress smuggling activities to the barest minimum and generate more revenue for the government.

DC Dalha Wada, new Acting Comptroller in charge of the Command, at a press conference at the headquarters of Katsina Customs Area Command, further pledged commitment not only to facilitate trade but also enhance Ease of Doing Business in the state.

DC Wada requested those interested in importation or exportation business to contact the Command in order to become a licensed clearing agent who can operate freely anywhere in the country.

According to him, out of the 18 seizures made from the period of 9th April to 4th May 2021, nine different vehicles were intercepted with nine assorted food, and non-food items were seized in the process of arriving into the country from the Niger Republic.
