Manufacturer recalls gummy vitamins over likely dangerous contamination

*The drug manufacturer says the affected products could contain metallic mesh material

*The US Food and Drug Administration’s investigation found a metallic mesh material in certain product lots made between October 29 and November 3, 2020, that could potentially damage the digestive tract

Consumers who take certain gummy vitamins may want to make sure that they are not actually a danger to their health. Why?

Following the discovery that the products may have been contaminated with a metallic mesh material that is potentially dangerous to human health if ingested, consumer goods manufacturer Church & Dwight has issued a recall for some of its Vitafusion gummy products.

The company, therefore, said it decided to recall the following gummy vitamin products:

1. Vitafusion kids Melatonin 50 ct;
2. Vitafusion Fiber Well 220ct;
3. Vitafusion SleepWell 250ct;
4. Vitafusion MultiVites 150ct;
5. Vitafusion Melatonin 44ct;
6. Vitafusion Melatonin 140ct; and
7. Vitafusion Fiber Well 90ct.

ConsumerConnect learnt that all of the affected bottles have expiration dates between 4/22 and 11/22.

The affected gummy vitamin products were said to have been distributed to retailers (both online and brick and from November 13, 2020 to Friday, April 9, 2021.

Meanwhile, in view of a possible metallic mesh material in the affected bottles of the products, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigation found a metallic mesh material in certain product lots made between October 29, 2020, and November 3, 2020.

The material could potentially lead to damage to the digestive tract, but Church & Dwight said it was not aware of any reports of consumer illness or injuries tied to the recall thus far.

The company urged consumers, who purchased any of the products listed above, to stop consuming them immediately and to contact Church & Dwight for a full refund of their monies.
