In further enhancing the contribution of the rice production programme in the state to the biofuels project, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has restated its commitment to the partnership with the Kebbi State Government for the production of biofuels.

The state oil firm has described the energy project as viable and in tandem with the global transition to renewable energy in the country.

Malam Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director (GMD) of NNPC, disclosed this while receiving Senator Atiku Bagudu, Governor of Kebbi State, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office Thursday, April 9, 2021, in Abuja, FCT.

Dr. Kenny Obateru, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of NNPC, in a statement noted that the NNPC GMD said the rice production programme in the state was a definite boost to the biofuels project.

Kyari stated that the linkage of the agricultural sector with the energy sector would facilitate economic growth and bring prosperity to the citizens.

He said: “We will go ahead and renew the Memorandum of Understanding and bring in any necessary amendment that is required to make this business run faster.”

Malam Kyari as well hinted at plans for the Corporation to resume active exploration activities in the Sokoto Basin.

Governor (Sen.) Bagudu, in his remarks during the visit expressed appreciation to the NNPC for its cooperation on the biofuel project in his state.

The governor said the cassava programme was well on course, but the same could not be said of the sugarcane programme as the targeted milestone was yet to be attained.

Bagudu assured the NNPC GMD of his commitment to the success of the project.

Kebbi State is one of the states the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation is partnering with for the development of renewable energy in the country.
