Against the backdrop of widespread insecurity across the country, the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of being too slow in tackling insecurity in the country.

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, Spokesman of the NEF, lamented that Nigeria is currently falling apart due to insecurity challenges.

Baba-Ahmed, who stated this while featuring on Arise Television programme monitored in Lagos, pointed out that banditry and kidnapping, that hitherto were not common in the country in recent years, have become a menace.

The NEF Spokesman averred that Nigerians are becoming more insecure daily.

According to him, the spate of insecurity in the country is responsible for the ongoing secession moves by ethnic nationalities in the country.

Baba-Ahmed further said: “If I have an opportunity to speak with the president, I will say: ‘Sir, please wake up and smell the coffee, this country is falling apart.

“It is in very serious danger; it is going down under your watch. You swore in 2015 and again in 2019 that you will protect the citizens and Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

“Sorry, sir, you are not doing that, doing it well, or you are not doing it at all.

“Why are we being so insecure? Why is it not possible for Nigerians to deal with banditry, kidnappings? These things two, three years ago, did not exist. Is anybody asking these questions?

“You are too slow, and people are smelling a vacuum around your government and this is why you see people saying we don’t want to be part of Nigeria.”

However, report indicates that amid these insecurity challenges, the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore have blamed state governors for banditry in the Northern Nigeria.

The group had claimed that pressures from governors turned some herdsmen into bandits.

Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore stated that the pressure had made some herders to lose their cattle and businesses, hence resorting to banditry.

Meanwhile, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, President of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), has lamented that the continuous silence of President Buhari over the security situation in the country is disheartening and disturbing.

Oke said this Wednesday, March 24 when he received separately, the Lagos, Ogun and Osun States’ Chapters of the PFN, led by Apostle Enjimaya Okwuonu and Apostle David Otaru as well as Prophet Isaiah Adelowokan respectively.

He stated: “The silence of President Muhammadu Buhari over the degenerating security situation in Nigeria, is too loud and this is very disturbing.

Seriously, President Buhari’s silence is deafening and it’s giving room for speculation and gossips that suggest the government has hands in the sickening situation by indulging and pampering the bandits and the killer Fulani herdsmen, among others”.

The cleric charged the President to rise up and tackle the situation headlong.

“He should rise above primordial sentiments and sectional attachment by doing the needful to make the nation more homely for every Nigerian,” said Bishop Oke.
