Buhari, Osinbajo receive COVID-19 Vaccine shots, urge Nigerians to follow suit

In a way to demonstrate leadership by example and credibility of the entre vaccination process to Nigerians, President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President (Prof.) Yemi Osinbajo received the Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine jabs Saturday, March 6, 2021, at the State House, Abuja, FCT.

Shuaib Rafidadi, Buhari’s personal physician, administered the vaccine at about 11.52 a.m., reports the News Agency of Nigeria.

The personal physician to Vice-President Osinbajo also vaccinated him immediately after the President received his vaccine shot.

Buhari, who is the ECOWAS Champion on the Fight against COVID-19, also received his COVID-19 vaccination card.

It observed that a similar card was presented to the Vice-President by officials of the Federal Ministry of Health, who supervised the exercise in the State House, report said.

Meanwhile, the Presidency is reported to have advised Nigerians also to take COVID-19 Vaccine jabs as immunisation against the damaging virus.

It is recalled that Nigeria received the first batch of 3.92 million doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine Tuesday, March 2 via n Emirates Airlines aircraft at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja,

The vaccine consignment was delivered to the country under the international Covax scheme.

How about vaccinating other Nigerians against COVID-19?

In a related development, sequel to the official launch of the national rollout of the mass inoculation programme at a ceremony in Abuja Friday, the Federal Government, through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), has announced a N10.6 billion budget for transportation of the approved COVID-19 vaccines across Nigeria.

In the “Estimated Budget for States Rollout of COVID-19 Vaccines (end-to-end)”, the NPHCDA noted that Kano State has the largest allotment for transportation at N685.4 million, while N558.6 million is for distributing the vaccines to Lagos State, the epicentre of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Katsina has N476 million pegged on distributing vaccines while N396.3 million will be spent in Oyo State, whereas the lowest budget for vaccine transportation is Bayelsa state at N121 million.

The NPHCDA also budgeted N1.4 billion for procurement of PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) and N373m for adverse events following immunisation kits (AEFI kits).

The total amount for the transportation of vaccine, procurement of Personal Protective Equipment, AEFI kits, and sensitisation was totalled N12.7 billion.

It was learnt Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, Minister for Finance, Budget and National Planning, said the Federal Government would draw a supplementary budget March 2021, to cover the cost of COVID-19 vaccinations in the country.
