The Federal Government has said the fresh six-month tenure extension for Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (CGC), will enable him to consolidate the implementation of the National Single Window, and ensure an orderly succession in the Service.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has granted a final six-month tenure extension to CGC Adeniyi.

It is recalled that as Comptroller-General of Customs, Adeniyi’s first tenure extension ought to expire August 1, 2026.
Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who disclosed this development Friday, June 19, 2026, in a statement emphasised the six-month extension, which would expire February 2027, is to enable the NCS Chief to consolidate the implementation of the National Single Window and ensure an orderly succession.
The statement noted that during the transition period, Adeniyi, working with the NCS Board, also would ensure the promotion of eligible Officers to the rank of Comptroller of Customs, and the compulsory retirement of Officers, who have attained 60 years of age or have served 35 years.
Adeniyi joined the Customs Service after graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, in the late ’80s.
The Presidency stated he rose from the ranks to become Deputy Comptroller in 2012, Comptroller in 2017, Assistant Comptroller-General in 2020, and Acting Deputy Comptroller-General in January 2023.
President Tinubu later appointed Adeniyi as the country’s Comptroller-General of Customs June 2023.
