In an attempt to play a fast one and dubiously get a teaching employment for his wife in the ongoing teachers’ recruitment exercise in Osun State, operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civic Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested an impostor at the College of Education, Ilesa CBT centre.

It was learnt the man was said to have tried to write the examination for his wife before he met his waterloo at the Centre Wednesday, February 10, 2021.

Roseline Olawuni, Information Officer at the Osun State Ministry of Education, in a statement confirmed NSCDC operatives apprehended the applicant’s husband in the process of impersonating his wife in the examination centre.

The statement explained the imposter was caught after his passport photograph did not match the photo records of applicants stored on the database of the State Ministry of Education.

Hon. Folorunsho Oladoyin, Honourable Commissioner for Education in Osun State, while commenting on the development, condemned the act of impersonation.

He emphasised that it is shameful and embarrassing that a prospective teacher could be found committing such a heinous crime.

Oladoyin remarked: “It is shameful that somebody who wants to teach students academically and morally could be involved in fraudulent malpractice. What example is such a person going to set for the students?

“This is rather unfortunate. I am taking this opportunity to warn our young people to desist from cutting corners, they should know that integrity pays and it’s the only way to success.”

The suspect was reported to have been handed over to the law enforcement agents for further investigation and prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Osun State Government has insisted that candidates would be selected based on merit.

Olawuni stated that the Commissioner disclosed that Governor Adegboyega Oyetola made it clear that only the brightest minds would be selected to teach in public schools in the state.

The Commissioner, however, expressed satisfaction at the level of decency and discipline he observed at all the centres he visited.

Hon. Oladoyin disclosed that the state government has given the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) the full autonomy to conduct the teachers’ recruitment examination without interference from any quarters.

He said: “I still want to reemphasise that only the best is good for our students, and so we are not going to compromise on quality.”

He assured parents and guardians that only the best of the best would be appointed as teachers to teach their children and wards, the statement noted.

The Commissioner also reiterated the commitment of the Adegboyega Oyetola administration to the improvement of education sector in the state.
