While still learning the ‘trade’ of cyber trickery, Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained 10 young suspects over cybercrimes popularly known as ‘Yahoo-Yahoo’ in the country.

The anti-graft agency in a statement disclosed the alleged Internet fraudsters were arrested at their Academy Friday, January 29, 2021, in Bwari axis of Abuja, FCT, where the “students” were said to be learning the art of cyber fraudulence.

Aged between 20 and 30 years, the EFCC announced names of the suspects as Sixtus Jude, Moses Samuel, Isalan Johnny, Dapet Nimshak, Samuel Ogboche, Victor Samuel, Victor Asuquo, Ibrahim Yunusa, Yahaya Usman and Chijoke Ikwuoha.

The Internet fraud trainees were purportedly arrested with different incriminating items in the FCT.

However, as the promoter of the Academy is reportedly on the run, the EFCC says investigations showed that the sponsor recruits and trains young individuals who show interest in Internet fraud.

The Commission stated: “The sponsor gets his percentage of their earnings based on an agreement between him and the recruits.

“He also serves as a conduit for laundering the money gotten from internet fraud by some of the suspects.”

The suspects will be prosecuted when an investigation is completed, said the EFCC.
