As a safeguard to protect consumers of one of the Protective Personal Equipment (PPEs) against the novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Asiaticon SA de CV (Mexico) is recalling all lots of V-Klean Hand Sanitiser Gel, Medically Minded Hand Sanitiser Gel and Protz Real Protection Antibacterial Hand Sanitiser respectively.

ConsumerConnect learnt that the products may contain methanol (wood alcohol), which can result in nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death.

Report indicates that the affected products may also be sub-potent for the ethanol content.

The use of sub-potent hand sanitiser products can have adverse health consequences related to infections.

There are yet no reports of adverse events, according to the company.

The recalled products were said to have been sold out in plastic clear bottles with clear tops with the following UPC Codes:

1. V-Klean in 8.5 fl. oz. (250 ml) bottles: 716053704993
2. V-Klean in 16.9 fl. oz. (500 ml) bottles: 716053704993
3. V-Klean in 33.8 fl. oz. (1000 ml) bottles: 716053704993
4. Medically Minded in 16.9 fl. oz. (500 ml) bottles: 676753003782
5. Protz in 13.5 fl. oz. (400 ml) bottles : 7503019005002

As regards what steps to take on protecting the wellbeing of the consuming populace, regulatory authorities, including the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), have urged consumers who purchased the recalled products to should stop using, and return them to places of purchase.
