FirstBank adjudged Nigeria’s strongest brand

*FirstBank of Nigeria Limited earns an AAA+ rating, the highest distinction awarded for exceptional brand strength and market leadership in the country by Brand Finance

FirstBank Nigeria Limited has emerged as strongest brand in the “Nigeria 25 2026”, ranking by Brand Finance.

The leading financial institution announced this recognition in a statement issued Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in Lagos.

The statement noted FirstBank earned an AAA+ rating, the highest distinction awarded for exceptional brand strength and market leadership.

ConsumerConnect reports the Brand Finance publishes a report that evaluates brands annually, using metrics including brand investment, equity, and overall business performance across several industries in the Nigerian economy.

It also stated FirstBank recorded a Brand Strength Index score of 92.2 percent, reflecting rising brand value and customer confidence.

Commenting on the latest industry recognition, Mr. Olayinka Ijabiyi, Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at FirstBank, described the recognition as a reflection of customers’ enduring trust in the bank.

Ijabiyi said: “It reflects the enduring trust of customers and our employees’ unwavering commitment to delivering excellence.”

The Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications stated FirstBank had delivered best-in-class financial services to individuals, SMEs, and corporates for 132 years.

He also noted: “Our customer-centric approach has enabled us to combine heritage with digital transformation, improving reliability, reputation, and engagement.”

The bank, Ijabiyi said, had remained committed to financial inclusion and sustainable growth through innovative financial solutions.

“We are proud to be Nigeria’s strongest brand and will continue empowering individuals and businesses through innovation,” stated he.

In his remarks on the FirstBank recognition, Babatunde Odumeru, Managing Director of Brand Finance Nigeria, said the ranking highlighted the relevance of long-established institutions adapting to change.

Odumeru stated: “In this environment (Nigeria), brands that combine relevance with execution will be best placed to sustain long-term value.”
