ASP Agabe Kaborlo, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), on behalf of CP Olugbenga Adepoju, Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, said it acknowledged a trending social media report and an attendant circulating video that purported suspected cultists actually renovated the outpost.

The alleged cultists reportedly visited the renovated Police outpost Thursday, October 15, 2026, to celebrate the completion of the project.

The Rivers Command also emphasised that Police facilities are “public institutions” established to protect citizens and enforce the law.

It noted that they must must not become uncharitable platforms through which criminal gangs or groups seek public validation or influence in Nigeria.

The Police Command, under the leadership of CP Adepoju, restated its zero tolerance for criminality, and any conduct that undermines public confidence in the security agency.

The Command further affirmed that the two affected Officers had been queried, and relieved of their duties until the outcome of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police also ordered a full investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the veracity of the allegations.

What Nigeria Police Act 2020 says

The Rivers State Police Command disclosed the planned probe would seek to determine the identities and backgrounds of the individuals or groups who financed or facilitated the renovation of the outpost; the Police Officers, who authorised or approved the project; whether due procedures were followed; whether any officer breached professional standards or compromised the integrity of the Force; and the extent of any involvement by Police personnel.

The Command said though it welcomed “legitimate community support” for improving Police facilities, consistent with Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, which provides for gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund.

The Police, however, clarified that such support must not compromise Police independence, professional standards or security.

According to the Police Command, the investigation into the allegation should establish whether the necessary approvals were obtained and appropriate checks conducted on those who financed or facilitated the renovation.

It averred that no donation or assistance confers immunity from investigation or prosecution on any group.

The Rivers State Command reiterated that it would not condone unprofessional conduct, compromise, or any form of improper association with criminal elements by any police officer, and that all personnel are expected to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity and accountability.

The Command as well stated that it remains committed to professionalism, transparency, the protection of lives and property, and the fight against cultism and organised crime, and promised that appropriate disciplinary and legal action would be taken against anyone found culpable, in line with the outcome of the investigation and extant laws.
