Burkina Faso: NAF clarifies C-130 aircraft crew safe, set to resume mission to Portugal

*The Nigerian Air Force authorities assure that the NAF C-130 aircraft crew on a ferry mission to Portugal is safe, and set to resume the mission as scheduled

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clarified reports making the rounds in the public space regarding the diversion of a NAF C-130 aircraft during its ferry mission to Portugal December 8, 2025.

NAF explained that following takeoff from Lagos, in Nigeria, the crew observed a technical concern which necessitated a precautionary landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, the nearest airfield, in accordance with standard safety procedures and international aviation protocols.

Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, in a statement issued Tuesday, December 9, 2025, said the crew was safe and had received cordial treatment from the host authorities.

The statement noted that plans are ongoing to resume the NAF mission as scheduled.

Air Commodore Ejodame also stated the Nigerian Air Force “appreciates the support received during this period and assures the public that NAF remains professionally committed to strict compliance with operational procedures and safety standards, ensuring the protection of its personnel while fulfilling its constitutional mandate.”
