Sequel to the decision of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to stay back, and attend to current security concerns in the West African country, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, GCON, has been designated to depart Abuja, FCT, Friday, November 21, 2025, to represent Tinubu at the G20 Leaders’ Summit holding in Johannesburg, South Africa.

ConsumerConnect had reported President Tinubu Thursday, November 20 postponed his earlier scheduled trip to Johannesburg while awaiting further security briefings on the recent security incidents in both Kebbi and Kwara states.

Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Media and Communications (Office of The Vice President), who disclosed this development in a statement Friday, November 21 said President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, who also serves as the current President of the G20 Group had invited President Tinubu to participate in this year’s edition.

The G20 Summit, scheduled to hold from Saturday, November 22 to Sunday, November 23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, attracts leaders from the world’s 20 top economies, including the European Union (EU), the African Union (AU), and global financial institutions, among others.

“The Vice-President will return to Nigeria at the end of the engagements,” stated the Presidential media aide.
