In continuation of the current administration approach to building legacy infrastructure to support the much-desired and planned $1 trillion economy and in consonance with its “Year of Action” agenda, the Nigerian Government has has officially launched the construction of the 125-kilometre Gombe–Biu dualisation project.
ConsumerConnect reports the government disclosed the critical section of the larger, estimated ₦1.245 trillion Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri corridor, representing a major milestone in infrastructural development.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, Thursday, June 4, 2026, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, performed the flag-off ceremony of the massive road infrastructure project.
It is also noted the development marked the end of 64 years of inaction that had plagued the vital trade route despite decades of public demand.
The iconic project is being hailed as the “4th Legacy Highway,” designed to finally unlock the economic potential of North-East Nigeria.
Reports indicated that by providing a modern dual-carriage link, the highway will enhance connectivity, bolster security, and facilitate seamless trade between Gombe, the wider Northeast subregion, and international markets across West and Central Africa.
Speaking on the critical importance of the road project to state economy, Governor Yahaya noted that the project fulfills a long-standing aspiration of the people.
The Gombe Governor as stressed that its alignment with the current administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, particularly its integration with Gombe State’s 184-hectare Agro-Livestock Development Zone.
The government also reportedly affirmed that the highway is expected to transform the local economy by supporting the state’s ultramodern abattoir and international livestock market.
The State Government further noted the road infrastructure would allow Northern Nigeria to add value to its livestock chain rather than relying solely on long-distance transport to the Southern region.
Project is ‘Sallah Gift’ to Gombe people
Commenting at the inauguration of the road construction, H. E. Senator (Engr.) David Umahi, Honourable Minister for Works, at the ceremony attended by the leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Works, in the National Assembly (NASS), Abuja, described the project as President Tinubu’s “Sallah Gift” to the people of Gombe, and its environs.
Umahi commended Governor Yahaya of Gombe as a “dependable partner” and “result-oriented” leader.
The Minister stated that President Tinubu has succeeded where previous administrations failed over the last six decades.
Meanwhile, in a related development, Senator Umahi, during his visit, also toured several ongoing state-led projects.
He applauded Governor Yahaya for his transformative governance.
According to him, the APC-led administration is actively changing the narrative of development in Gombe State.
On construction of highway project
The Federal Government disclosed the 125km project is scheduled to commence within the next 30 days, and would be executed by Hi-Tech Construction Company Limited.
Senator Umahi indicated that the project scope has been further expanded by an additional nine kilometers, ensuring a robust and durable network.
The Emir of Yamaltu, HRH Abubakar Aliyu—and local stakeholders, including Gombe State APC Chairman Mohammed Ɗantata Ndus, who all pledged their full cooperation, as the stakeholders expressed much enthusiasm from traditional leaders.
