Following intelligence of the irregular activities in the facility, the Lagos State Police Command has uncovered and sealed a suspected illegal wine factory located in the Yafin area of Badagry in the cosmopolitan state.
ConsumerConnect gathered the Police operatives found adulterated alcoholic drinks, empty bottles and wine labels during the raid on the factory.
The security officers arrested a 48-year-old man, identified as Anaebo Emeka Hilary, at the location, which the Command said was being used to produce and package suspected adulterated alcoholic beverages for unsuspecting consumers.
It is recalled that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) recently reported the uncovering of a suspected fake fruit juice factory at Aradagun, also in the Badagry area of Lagos State.
The operatives, at the suspected illegal wine factory, recovered among other items, bottles of suspected adulterated drinks, empty bottles, assorted wine labels, and various utensils reportedly being used in the illicit production process.
The Police stated the Officers as well recovered materials retained as investigations continue, sealed off the facility, while Anaebo, the suspect has been taken into custody.
Meanwhile, CP Tijani Fatai, Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, has commended the Officers involved in the operation.
Fatai urged members of the public to continue providing credible information that could help expose criminal activities across the state.
The Lagos State Police assured that it would continue intelligence-led operations against activities could pose risks to residents of the Centre of Excellence.
Consumers have also been advised to exercise caution when purchasing alcoholic drinks by observing the packaging, labelling, and the source of products in marketplaces.
