Lagos engages market stakeholders on relocation of Computer Village to new ICT & business park

The Lagos State Government (LASG) has engaged stakeholders of the popular “Computer Village”, Ikeja, in respect of the proposed relocation of the market to the new ICT and Business Park at Gatankowa, in Agbado Oke-Odo axis of the state.

ConsumerConnect reports Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, Permanent Secretary, Office of Urban Development, in Lagos State, spoke Monday, September 21, 2025, during the meeting at the Computer Village market square, on Otigba Street, Ikeja.

Arc. Oki said the meeting was at the direction of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.

The Permanent Secretary also disclosed Governor Sanwo-Olu directed that there should be an inclusive process in which beneficiaries play an active role in the ongoing relocation effort.

He stated: “In line with the Governor’s directive, and to demonstrate the openness and transparency of the Lagos State Government, we have brought this meeting to you in your market for the first time since the commencement of the exercise some 15 years ago.”

Oki further explained that Sanwo-Olu’s administration is committed to the speedy completion of the relocation exercise, just as it is fast-tracking the construction of the ultramodern ICT and Business Park and its complementary facilities, such as hotels, banking hall, recreation centre, car parks, fire station, police post and access roads, among others at Gatankowa, in Agbado Oke-Odo.

According to him, moving the ICT business from Ikeja, which original residential status had been bastardised by the organic growth of business activities, to the new purpose-built ICT and Business Park, would offer a win-win situation to both the state government and the traders in the areas of optimisation, and a serene environment.

Oki, therefore, urged stakeholders of the Computer Village to embrace the good gestures of the Lagos State Government, and cooperate fully to facilitate speedy and seamless movement to the designated site to take maximum advantage of opportunities therein.

The Permanent Secretary urged the market stakeholders to restore sanity to the Ikeja Computer Village suburb by desisting from trading on the street, or displaying wares on the road, road setbacks, or drainage setbacks.

He equally assured them while of the Lagos Government’s commitment to sustainable, people-focused urban development.

Director of Urban Development, Tpl. Olalekan Odujebe and Tpl. Olayinka Bello also made a presentation that highlighted ongoing efforts, and benefits inherent in the market relocation exercise.

Chief (Mrs.) Abisola Azeez, the Iyaloja of Computer Village, expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for the initiative.

Chief Mrs. Azeez said the relocation, when completed, would further enhance the market’s potential and provide a more conducive environment for traders and customers.

At the meeting held in the market were the General Manager, Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), Tpl. Oladimeji Animashaun; Coordinating Director, Lagos State Building Control Agency, (LASBCA), Builder Florence Gbaye; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Urban Development, Mr. Segun Williams and Executive members of the Computer village market association.
