QoE: NCC urges NYSC members to become telecoms ‘Consumer Champions’ in communities

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has described the service members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as “key agents of change” in the country.

ConsumerConnect reports the NCC stated this during a recent consumer education and sensitisation programme Corps members on consumers’ data usage and data depletion at the at the Magaji Dan-Yamusa Permanent Orientation Camp of NYSC, in Keffi, Nasarawa State.

The telecoms sector regulatory Commission also sensitised the young Nigerians on major telecoms issues at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, in Paiko, Niger State.

According to the Commission, the initiative is part of the Commission’s strategic consumer outreach with the theme: “Consumer Sensitisation on Data Depletion: The Role of National Youth Service Corps Members”.

Role of Corps members as ‘Consumer Champions’

Speaking at the NYSC Orientation Camps in Niger and Nasarawa states, Mrs. Freda Ruth Bruce-Bennett, Director of Consumer Affairs Bureau (CAB) of NCC, in her address emphasised that “as educated, mobile, and socially connected Nigerians”, Corps members are “key agents of change” in the West African country.

Bruce-Bennett disclosed the Commission also urged them to become “Consumer Champions”.

The telecoms regulator stated the young Nigerians can help in spreading awareness of consumer rights and protection to friends, family, and local communities in their places of primary assignments during the National Service.

The telecoms regulator said they could become consumer champions by “educating others about the NCC’s initiatives and how and how to enjoy better quality of experience.

“Engaging with us — report challenges, share feedback, and help us serve you better.”

Bruce-Bennett, therefore, reaffirmed the NCC’s unwavering commitment to creating “a telecoms environment that is fair, competitive, inclusive, and consumer friendly.”

She added: “Your voices matter. Your experiences shape policy. Your participation drives progress.

“Together, let us build a telecom sector that works for all Nigerians — not just in access, but in quality, transparency, and trust.”

Commission donates food items to NYSC Management

The Nigerian Communications Commission donated some items, including bags of rice and cooking oil to the Management of NYSC at the Magaji Dan-Yamusa Permanent Orientation Camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), in Keffi, Nasarawa State.

Officials of the Commission also presented similar items the Corps at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, in Paiko, Niger State.

The NCC, which donated the food items during the recent consumer education and sensitisation programme in Niger and Nasarawa states for Corps members on telecoms issues.

Besides the sensitisation campaign, the further Commission said it engaged the excited Corps members in quiz competitions on the two orientation camps, with winners of the quiz questions carting away gift items, including power banks, airtime and data subscriptions.

The Commission also donated three bags of rice (50kg) and three 25 liters of vegetable Cooking oil to support each of the two orientation camps in Nasarawa and Niger states respectively.

The NCC as well disclosed Hajiya Salamatu Mohammed, NYSC Coordinator in Nasarawa State, and Mrs. Martina Shuaibu-Ibrahim,

NYSC Coordinator in Niger State, received the donated items from the officials of the telecoms sector regulatory Commission.
