Concerned about empowering them to achieve their future ambitions, Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged youths in the South-East to assist the agency in ridding the region of all forms of corruption and financial crimes.

Mr. Ola Olukoyede, Executive Chairman of EFCC, has urged youths in the South-East, Nigeria, to assist in ridding the region of all forms of corruption and financial crimes.

ConsumerConnect gathered Olukoyede, stated this Thursday, June 26 at the 2025 Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Conference, held in in Enugu State, noted without the youths, the future is not assured, report said.

Speaking on the theme, “The Police and The Youth, Bridging The Gap”, the EFCC Chief, represented by Olukoyede, who was represented by Aisha Abubakar, Acting Enugu Zonal Director, also asserted: “We are resilient and always insist that the right thing is done against all odds.

“Please, cooperate with us. We are not your enemies, we are your friends.

“We are here to protect you and to serve you.”

Olukoyede explained that the Commission aimed to sanitise the South-East region, and enable the youths to achieve their future endeavours.

He further said: “The EFCC is here to enable the youths and help them re-align with their future endeavours because, without them, our tomorrow is not assured.

“We need the youths to hand over to, but they must have integrity, be knowledgeable, and willing to impact the community. “We are determined to turn the fortunes of the Southeast completely around, in relation to the fight against economic and financial crimes.”

He urged the youths to support the EFCC, especially in the area of intelligence sharing.

The agency is not just about service delivery and dignity, he stated.

Olukoyede, therefore, urged the youths in the South-East region to take advantage of the Eagle Eye App by downloading it and reporting fraudulent activities around them.

Martins Ugwu, PCRC Coordinator, in Enugu State Youth Committee, in his presentation had earlier said that the essence of the conference was to bring together, village and community youth leaders, leaders from notable youth organisations in the southeast, and security agencies to address concerns and find solutions to issues affecting the relationship between the youth and law enforcement agencies.

Ugwu, “We aim to empower our youths to see law enforcement agencies as partners in progress, guardians of their lives and properties as we aim to create a society where every youth feels safe, heard and valued, not oppressed and suppressed.”

In January 2025, the EFCC operatives arrested about 37 suspected Internet fraudsters, in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

The anti-graft Commission had nabbed the suspects during a sting operation at the Commissioners’ Quarters on Dr. J. O. Ukwutinife Close in Ifite, Awka.

The EFCC also disclosed that all the suspects were male.

The suspects’ arrest followed intelligence linking them to fraudulent internet activities.

Items recovered from them include six exotic cars, laptops, and mobile phones.

The Commission, however, said the suspects would be arraigned in court after investigations are concluded.
