Farewell to Tesla’s golden era, as Elon Musk, a multibillionaire American businessman, Chairman of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), in the United States (US), and world’s richest man, recently admitted that he has run out of options as his business empire faces an imminent collapse, says a report.

ConsumerConnect gathered Tesla, the global conglomerate, is currently in free fall, with no profit margin, a damaged public image, and fierce competition closing in in recent times.

Musk’s Tesla Incorporated, a multinational automotive and clean energy company,  headquartered in Austin, Texas,  designs, manufactures and sells battery electric vehicles, stationary battery energy storage devices from home to grid-scale, solar panels and solar shingles, and related products and services.

The US Government DOGE also consists of personnel, allies, and Musk associates appointed during the second presidency of Donald Trump to implement his government efficiency initiative.

US President Trump created the advisory body through an Executive Order (EO) since his assumption of office January 20, 2025, in the White House, in Washington, D.C.

However, it was gathered that Tesla, Musk’s business empire, is going through its worst moment at this time as the Founder directs affairs at Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency.

Since its creation, the Department of Government Efficiency, however, has faced legal challenges over the scope of its work, and Musk and his team have been criticised for a lack of transparency.

Still, polling suggests its cost-cutting agenda has widespread support in the United States, agency report stated.

The shadow of collapse looms over them, or rather, over Musk with a net worth estimated at $344 billion by Fobes, the central figure of the Tesla, his company.

Affirming the company truly has run into troubled waters in recent times, the mogul has acknowledged that the conglomerate is experiencing one of its worst periods since it was founded, report said.

It is equally indicated that a nine percent drop in sales, and a 71 percent plunge in net profits have shaken the foundations of a global giant that once seemed untouchable.

Besides, “the market is more aggressive than ever…. The perfect storm has formed around them, and with rising trade tensions, Musk’s lack of popularity, and, let’s be honest, the fact that Tesla hasn’t released anything noteworthy in years,” report said.

But is the world witnessing the fall of the Musk empire?

It was learnt that Musk, who is increasingly becoming unpopular in the US, used to be “a symbol of innovation, technology, and progress”.

In one if his reactions to his dwindling business fortune, Musk late April 2025, pledged to “significantly” cut back his role in DOGE, the body tasked with reducing US Government spending and cutting jobs of several thousands of Americans.

How negativity, declining fortune affect Musk

Though the development feels like a distant past now, more than half of consumers no longer see Musk the same way, according to recent surveys.

Latest surveys found that 60 percent of consumers of his company’s products and services have a negative opinion of him (maybe the other 40 percent didn’t answer), report noted.

Nonetheless, this scenario indirectly and directly affects Tesla, especially because Musk is the face of the company, and some businesses do suffer from the public image of their Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), according to report.

Report said: “The truth is that Musk’s public image isn’t what it used to be.

“It has declined since he joined the government (taking charge of the widely unpopular DOGE). “This stage has put Musk on the evening news with interviews and controversies that haven’t sat well with the public but… is this the beginning of the end?”

Tesla denies it’s seeking a new CEO

Despite everything, and while the rumour spreads in the United States and across the global world, Tesla reportedly denied that it is looking for a new CEO.

“But we know when there’s smoke… There’s fire.

“The very fact that this possibility reached the press is already a sign that something is moving in Tesla’s inner circles. Who will be next Tesla’s face?” report noted.

The competition doesn’t give a break

Meanwhile, as Tesla remains stagnant, other manufacturers are racing ahead in the business world.

It was found that BYD, Hyundai, and General Motors (GM) are launching more affordable car models with advanced technology and aggressive marketing strategies, winning over many who once trusted Tesla.

“And of course, this massive loss of loyalty is not going unnoticed at the American giant.

It almost feels like a seasoned senior is being overtaken by a newly recruited rookie,” report stated.

As Tesla hasn’t released anything new in months, one of the most repeated complaints from the public and investors is the lack of new models in Tesla’s lineup.

While competitors update their product offerings constantly, Musk’s brand has remained stuck. There’s nothing new, according to report.

It said: “And although a major announcement is expected in the coming months, there is still no official confirmation, and people are starting to get anxious.”

Uncertainty in the coming quarters

It was learnt that the second half of 2025 would be decisive for Musk’s company.

If Tesla can’t reverse the trend, it will likely lose even more ground in the global market, report noted.

It is yet believed that the decisions Musk makes (and especially the statements he gives…) in the coming weeks could shape the direction not only of the company, but also of the entire Electric Vehicle (EV) industry.

Will Tesla regain its crown?

Meanwhile, Tesla, the tech giant, report said, is walking a tightrope.

The company is in free fall, with no profit margin, a damaged public image, and fierce competition closing in.

As everything seems to suggest the world is currently witnessing the end of Tesla’s reign, it is noted the company “must prove that the final word hasn’t been said yet.”
