President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of India over the passing of the country’s former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Singh, who had served as Indian Prime Minister between 2004 and 2014, died Thursday, December 26, 2024, at 92.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who stated this Friday, December 27, 2024, recalled Prime Minister Singh’s official visit to Nigeria in 2007 was historic.

The Indian former leader earned the distinct honour of addressing a joint session of the National Assembly (NASS), in Abuja, FCT, a privilege accorded to only a few global leaders.

Onanuga noted President Tinubu particularly paid tribute to Dr. Singh’s dedication to strengthening the Nigeria-India relationship.

Tinubu stated late Singh’s diplomatic efforts have remained a reference point in the history of the bilateral relations between the two countries.

The President as well recounted the establishment of the Strategic Partnership between Nigeria and India under Singh’s tenure.

According to President Tinubu, the Strategic Partnership has continued to flourish, driving political and economic prosperity for Nigeria and India.

The President further lauded Prime Minister Singh’s efforts at forging improved cooperation in defence trade, culture, education, health, science and technology, and ICT.

Expressing gratitude to Indians for celebrating the life and accomplishments of their selfless leader and distinguished economist, Tinubu commended Singh’s role in steering India’s economic reforms during globally challenging times.

The statement added the Nigerian President prayed that the departed Prime Minister’s dedication to service would continue to inspire the Indian people.
