Economy: Tinubu urges media to support Tax Reforms for sustainable wealth creation

In eliciting the much needed public understanding and cooperation of Nigerian consumers, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged media professionals to play a crucial role in supporting his administration’s tax reforms.

ConsumerConnect reports the President Tinubu restated this while speaking at a recent stakeholders’ engagement session, in Abuja, FCT.

The President also emphasised the success of the ongoing reforms relies heavily on the understanding and cooperation of millions of Nigerians, which he affirmed the media could help to cultivate.

Overarching objective of tax reforms

In regard to the overarching objective of the tax reforms bills currently in the National Assembly (NASS), Abuja, the Nigerian leader averred it is aimed at enhancing fiscal sustainability and boosting economic growth in the West African country.

President Tinubu as well explained that the Federal Government intensifying efforts at simplifying Nigeria’s tax system, broadening the revenue base, and eliminating loopholes that have hindered effective taxation in the economy.

According to him, without improved revenue generation, achieving national development goals, such as infrastructure development, social welfare, and poverty alleviation would remain difficult.

Appeal to media support for consumer education and sensitisation

In a move to record success of the reforms process, President Tinubu further appealed to media professionals to use their platforms to educate Nigerians on the significance of paying taxes and supporting the tax reforms process in the country.

The President equally observed that misinformation and resistance to the reforms could derail current efforts at positioning the Nigerian economy on a more sustainable path for the good of all.

He also reassured Nigerians, that the reforms would be implemented fairly and transparently.

The President restated his administration’s commitment to using generated revenue efficiently for the benefit of all Nigerians.

Collaboration with stakeholders, including the media, is key to achieving these goals in the economy, stated he.
