Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, South-East Nigeria, has approved a ₦30,000 monthly state stipend for each National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, in a major boost to welfare of youths deployed to the state.
ConsumerConnect reports Governor Nwifuru announced this development Friday, August 7, 2026, during the official swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, in Afikpo area of the state.

In his address on the occasion, which Chidiebere Onyia, Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, in Ebonyi State prrsented on his behalf, the governor also reassured the incoming Corps members of his administration’s steadfast commitment to the security and well-being of young Nigerians engaged in the one-year mandatory National Service.
The Ebonyi Governor described the state as a hospitable, peaceful, and opportunity-rich state.
He equally urged the Corps members to leverage the service year for personal development, cross-cultural integration, and community building.
Nwifuru stated: “This administration remains committed to supporting your growth, welfare, and safety.”
The governor as well encouraged the Corps members to contribute meaningfully to their primary assignments across the state.
Critical infrastructure at orientation camp, by NYSC State Director
Commending the Ebonyi State Government for its sustained partnership and investment in youth development over the years, Mrs. Malgwi Maidariya, NYSC State Coordinator for Ebonyi, highlighted critical infrastructure needs at the orientation facility located at Old MacGregor College, Afikpo.
Maidariya appealed for state intervention in key physical upgrades, including modernisation of the central camp kitchen, and construction of a standard dining facility.
She also noted the establishment of a fully equipped Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) centre, structural perimeter fence renovation, and facility upgrades inside the multi-purpose hall at the orientation camp.
Addressing the Corps members, Mrs. Maidariya emphasised the importance of discipline, active participation in camp programmes, and adherence to the foundational values of patriotism, integrity, and selfless service to Nigeria.
She further extended appreciation to camp officials, resource personnel, and collaborating security agencies for maintaining order and operational efficiency throughout the orientation period.
The swearing-in ceremony featured several key proceedings.
Among them were the formal signing and taking of the oath of allegiance by the newly sworn-in corps members, tactical drills presented by the Man ‘O’ War unit alongside traditional ceremonial performances.
The official walkthrough and evaluation of infrastructure development projects within the camp grounds also took place during the programme Friday.
