Following recent reports of data breach in the leading financial institution, Zenith Bank Plc has affirmed the incident, and informed millions of its customers that it is currently investigating the cyberthreat to its system.
ConsumerConnect gathered that the cyber breach involved an unauthorised access to limited customer information, including e-mail addresses and phone numbers.
The bank, however, has assured customers that its banking services and digital channels remain secure and fully operational.
Zenith Bank, which stated this in a notice to customers Tuesday, August 4, 2026, said the incident was part of a broader global cyberattack targeting multiple international organisations across various sectors of the economy.
The financial institution also disclosed that it had activated its incident response protocols, and implemented cybersecurity measures immediately after discovering the breach.
The notice further stated: “Zenith Bank is investigating unauthorised access to limited customer information including email addresses and phone numbers.
“This incident is part of a broader, global cyber-attack targeting multiple international organisations across various sectors.
“Upon discovery, we promptly activated our incident response protocols, cybersecurity actions and remediation efforts.”
The bank, therefore, reassured customers that its core banking operations have not been compromised in the data breach incident.
It said: “Our banking services and digital channels remain secure and fully operational.”
Zenith Bank, as a precautionary measure as well urged customers to be vigilant against phishing attempts, including fraudulent e-mails, text messages and phone calls after the incident.
It further cautioned customers never to disclose sensitive security information such as passwords, Personal Identification Numbers (PINs), One-Time Passwords (OTPs), or other security credentials to anyone.
The transnational lender reaffirmed its commitment to protecting customers’ information, thanking them for their continued trust and confidence.
Zenith Bank urged customers with enquiries to contact Zenith Direct through its customer service channel.
