Omicron Variant: COVID-19 death toll exceeds 900,000 mark in US

*The United States’ confirmed deaths from the Coronavirus (COVID-19) were totalled 902,650 mark, as the last few days have also seen some good news in managing the virus

The United States (US) death toll from the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic passed the 900,000 mark, according to records kept by Johns Hopkins University.

ConsumerConnect gathered the number of confirmed US cases in the last two years now exceeds 76 million.

However, the last few days have also seen some good news.

State health officials in New York reported a sharp drop in the percentage of positive test results, report said.

The state’s 3.52 percent positivity rate is the lowest since the Omicron variant appeared November 2021.

Former US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb, said on CBS’ Face The Nation Sunday programme, that he expected schools would begin to resume normal operations soon.

Dr. Gottlieb stated: “We can start to lean forward and take a little bit more risk and try to at least make sure that students in schools have some semblance of normalcy for this spring term.”

According to the COVID-19 ‌tally‌ ‌‌compiled‌‌ ‌by‌ ‌Johns‌ ‌Hopkins‌ ‌University, as of Sunday, February 6, 2022, the total‌ confirmed‌ ‌cases in the United States were 76,513,221 with 902,650 deaths from the damaging pandemic.

Similarly, the total‌ ‌global‌ ‌cases were estimated at 395,952,252 while aggregate global‌ ‌deaths were put at 5,742,302.‌
